Sergeant
O'Hara has his hands full training raw recruits, one of who, 'Skeets'
Burns,
is a particular thorn in his side. If Burns's lackadaisical approach to
the military were not bad enough, he also makes advances on nurse Nora
Dale, whom Sergeant O'Hara secretly loves. Nora is oblivious to
O'Hara's
feelings and is attracted to the handsome 'Skeets.' But an indiscretion
turns her against him, and it takes an expedition to China and a battle
with a warlord's bandit brigade to sort things out among the nurse and
her two Marines.

Alonzo is an apparently armless knife thrower who
uses
his feet to encircle Estrellita with blades. Zanzi is killed by Alonzo
(who really does have arms). Estrellita allows herself to fall in love
with Alonzo (she fears men's arms), so he goes to a hospital and has
his
amputated. Meantime Malabar cures Estrellita of her fear of men's arms,
so Alonzo tries to have him killed during a circus act.

Magician Phroso's wife Anna leaves him for another
man,
named Crane, who fights with Phroso and leaves him paralyzed. Later
Anna
returns and he finds her dead, leaving behind a daughter. For 18 years
Phroso, known as "Dead Legs" by his cronies, plots his revenge,
becoming
a pseudo-king in East Africa, nearby where Crane has set up an ivory
business.
When the daughter is grown, having lived in a brothel in Zanzibar
thanks
to "Dead Legs", Phroso put his plan into action, resulting in revenge
and
retribution all around.
