The Sad Sack
Starring: Jerry Lewis, David Wayne,
Phyllis Kirk
& Peter Lorre
Private Meredith Bixby (Jerry Lewis) is so out of step
in the Army that his six weeks of planned basic training has now stretched
to 17 months. After he loses a tank, WAC Major Shelton, a psychologist,
is assigned to make a good soldier out of him. She requests Corporal Dolan
and Private Stan Wensalawsky to help with the training. Dolan and Stan
both have scores to settle with Bixby and their "guidance" leads to more
mishaps. Sergeant Pulley has them shipped out to Morocco. On leave
in North Africa, Bixy wanders alone into a bar, has a few Moroccan Delights,
which he thinks are malted milks, and becomes convinced that exotic singer-dancer
Zita is THE girl for him. To protect him, Dolan tells him some lies about
Zita, and Bixby, in despair, joins the Suicide Division of the Foreign Legion.
He is kidnapped by a band of Arabian plotters and, guarded by the knife-happy
Abdul, is ordered to assemble a stolen American cannon. Zita learns of his
plight and gets Dolan and Stan to join her in a rescue mission.

The Sailor Who Fell from Grace
with the Sea
Starring:
Kris Kristofferson & Sarah Miles
The story is about a fatherless adolescent boy who is himself
very much like the sea. He is restless and calm and seemingly untameable.
All the confusion and frustrations of adolescence are portrayed here in an
honesty that no other movie has ever dared to show. The restless urge to
be a grown up and to move on to a life of daring excitement, and the desire
to find a philosophy and a poetry to which one can ascribe are all explored
in an uncompromising way in this film. Desperate for an authority and leadership
that he can look up to, the boy finds himself vying for the acceptance of
a sadistic boy with a Nietzsche complex who uses a strain of hierarchy in
his little band of friends in order to maintain control. Soon Kristofferson
shows up and as he seems to be the stuff of oceanic legends, the boy finds
a new hero to worship.

Blair is engaged to Marcia. Sally is hired to impersonate a famous Russian
dancer named Noskerova, but at that engagement, she is found to be a phony
and that Blair is engaged. Undaunted, she proceeds with her life and has
her show on Broadway, but she still thinks of Blair.
Salt
& Pepper
Starring: Peter Lawford & Sammy Davis Jr.
The boys run a swinging nightclub in London's Soho district and
also reluctantly double as secret agents. Their current assignment is to
put the kibosh on a half-baked military officer, who plans to hijack a
nuclear sub and hold England captive. The film is securely locked into the
1960s, with weird camera angles and out-of-focus optical effects, plenty
of compliant young miniskirted damsels, and Bondlike action highlights.
Sam Whiskey
Starring: Burt Reynolds, Angie Dickenson &
Clint Walker

attractive widow Laura offers him a job, he hesitates: he shall salvage

Santa Claus
Conquers the Martians

upset that their children have become obsessed with TV shows from Earth which
extoll the virtues of Santa Claus, start an expedition to Earth to kidnap
the one and only Santa. While on Earth, they kidnap two lively children that
lead the group of Martians to the North Pole and Santa. The Martians then
take Santa and the two children back to Mars with them. Voldar, a particularly
grumpy Martian, attempts to do away with the children and Santa before
they get to Mars, but their leader Lomas stops him. When they arrive on
Mars, Santa, with the help of the two Earth children and a rather simple-minded

cheer to the children of Mars.
Santa Fe Passage

& Slim Pickens

another train from a stampede of wild ponies and Kiowa chief Satank's warriors,
battling them at every bend in the trail. Randolph even gets a measure of
personal revenge against the chief by partially scalping and disfiguring
him in front of his tribesmen. There is the usual love triangle between
Randolph, Jess Griswold and pretty brunette Aurelie
St. Clair, but Randolph wins the maiden's hand at the finish. Utah's landscape
nearly steals the film because of the beautiful vistas and high skies that
mirror an artist's canvas. The pony stampede through a canyon is very effective
and displays the beauty of the Wild West with the wagon train in harm's way.

Mark Hamill, Eric Olson & M Emmet
Walsh

Scandal
Sheet
Starring: Donna Reed, Broderick Crawford &
John Derek
Gripping story line fueled by some
heavy duty irony. Crawford plays a ruthless tabloid newspaper editor
who has the tables turned on him when he commits a crime, then finds himself
having to encourage his top reporter to get to the bottom of the story,
in order to deflect suspicion. Top notch suspense as Crawford gambles that
he can keep his cool and get away with it, even as the walls close in and
the odds look worse and worse. Crawford is at his no-nonsense, take no prisoners,
mince-no-words best, and able support from a young John Derek and Donna
Reed (smoking cigarettes and a little less squeaky clean than usual). Good
stuff.
The Scapegoat
Starring: Alec Guiness & Bette
Davis

British crown, represented by Michael Rennie. When all is said and done,
Gable finally accepts the challenge, and how he pulls the rescue off makes
the story. Downtown Hong Kong has many memorable shots, and the film utilizes
each of them to the fullest potential.

State
Fair
Starring:
Janet Gaynor, Lew Ayres & Will Rogers
This quaint, loving story set at
the Iowa State Fair springs from Hollywood’s deep feeling for its version
of rural America, and audiences returned the affection. This drew the
blueprint for the two musical versions that followed. Homespun philosopher
Rogers plays a farmer who has a chance for a blue ribbon with his prize
hog, Blue Bell; his wife, Dresser, has high hopes for her mincemeat recipe;
son Foster takes an adolescent shine to worldly trapeze artist Eilers; and
daughter Gaynor wins the heart of a newsman with a roving eye, Ayres. The
plot may be as simple as the desires of the characters, but the picture never
condescends, making this a warmhearted portrait of another time and place.
