This solid and impressive biography of Sam Houston reveals a slice of American History that is rarely investigated, the presidency of Andrew Jackson, the US government's treatment of the Cherokee tribe, and the annexation of Texas. It's all fascinating and quite well done.

Man Without a Star

The leader of the pretend-bandits is Larry.

Night Passage

The workers on the railroad haven't been paid in months --- that's because Whitey and his gang, including fast-shooting, dangerous, but likable Utica Kid, keep holding up the train for its payroll. Grant McLaine, a former railroad employee who was fired in disgrace, is recruited to take the payroll through under cover. A young boy and a shoe box figure into the plot when Whitey's gang tries to hold up the train and Grant and the Kid meet again to settle an old score.

No Name On the Bullet
    Starring: Audie Murphy, Charles Drake & Virginia Grey

John Gant, hired assassin rides into town. No one is sure of the identity of his intended victim. Townsfolk have shady pasts that make each one believe that John Gant is there to kill them. While each townsperson is falling apart from guilt, Gant is waiting in the hotel but is still given the blame for the shootings and the suicide of the Banker. An excellent film with some fine acting by Audie Murphy.

Northwest Mounted Police

In conjunction with the robbery, Mitch plans to avenge himself upon every man who hindered his purchase of a single bottle of medicine costing one dollar and eighty seven cents so many years ago.

The Quick Gun

Murphy is enroute to his home town to face up to the citizens who think he murdered the two sons of a local rancher, despite the fact that it was self-defense. Before arriving at the town, Murphy runs into the gang of outlaws he used to ride with. He finds out that they plan to rob the bank and burn the town to the ground.Murphy tries to warn the citizens, but their prejudice against him makes them reluctant to listen. But Sheriff James Best, an old friend of Murphy's, DOES believe, and he organizes the citizens to defend the town.

The Raid

A Reason to Live A Reason to Die

Having relinquished Fort Holman to the Confederacy without a shot being fired, Col. Pembroke is in danger of a court-martial finding him guilty of treason. To escape certain death, he agrees to try to retake the lost fort using the services of seven men already condemned to death. The men are no happier to serve under him than he is to have them, but despite their own quarrels (and threats on the Colonel's life), they arrive at the fort and mount their attack.

Set in California in 1850. At the time, California was a newly acquired land of the United States. America had signed a treaty to protect the Mexicans living in the area, which it was not living up to. When some American outlaws murder the father of Paula Castillo (Hayworth billed as Cansino) she goes to Washington to make a petition for help to protect her people and their homes and bring peace. In response to her plea, the president sends Captain John Carroll (Tom Keene) to enforce the treaty, bring about peace and see to it that the outlaws stop stealing their land.

Red River Robin Hood
    Starring: Tim Holt, Cliff Edwards & Barbara Moffett

Arriving in Red River to join their friend Chet Andrews in the ownership of a cattle ranch, Jim Carey and his pal Ike  discover that Chet has been jailed for resisting the efforts of a swindler, Scott Yager, to evict him from the ranch. Yager, through a Spanish land grant, and with the help of a crooked Judge, has proven ownership to all the land in the Red River territory. He and his henchmen have been evicting all of the ranchers who won't pay rent on their own ranches. Jim and Ike gain the confidence of a crusading newspaper editor, Sam Sterling and his daughter Carol. Jim and Ike, dressed in black robes and masks, attend a meeting ot the ranchers and offer to help them. They join Yager's gang and, following orders, collect the rent money, but then don their robes as Mr. Justice, and hold up Yager's other collectors and return the money. Jim breaks into Yager's office and finds proof that the land grant is a fake, but Yager discovers the robes worn by Jim and Ike, both as Mr. Justice, and has two of his henchmen wear them and take money from the ranchers, thus breaking their confidence in "Mr. Justice." And then, Jim and Ike are captured by Yager.

Suspecting that Carson is up to no good, MacBean is sure of it when the handsome stranger begins courting MacBean's daughter Lissy Anne, Things come to a head dramatically when the heretofore easygoing Carson comes face to face with a band of hooded, night-riding barn burners who've been fomenting discord among the farmers.

Wrangler Clay Phillips and his young brother are taking horses to Sonora when they come across four dancehall girls heading the same way, stuck with a wrecked buggy. As he already has an escaped killer after him he is less than thrilled to have to take the remaining girls on with him. But it has to be said that Mary is damn easy on the eyes.

The Rounders

Ben and Howdy are a couple of aging cowboys who bust broncos out of Sedona for Jim Ed Love, a slick operator if ever there was one. Sisters, Meg and Agatha, have their eyes on Ben and Howdy, but the boys aren't ready to settle down yet. They spend the winter in the high country corralling more than 100 stray cattle at $7 a head for Jim Ed. Most years, they blow their winter pay in one spring night at a Sedona bar, but this year, Ben and Howdy have a plan: to take an ornery roan that Ben has been unable to break and bet their bankroll that no cowboy at the Sedona rodeo can stay on the horse. What will they do if they win - marry the sisters or head for Tahiti?

Run for Cover

When an innocent man is given a full pardon and released from prison, he sets out to find a new town to make a fresh start in. Along the way he meets up with a young kid. Soon the two are mistaken for train robbers, but not before the kid is left a cripple by an irate posse. When the two are cleared of the crime, the town appoints them Sheriff & Deputy. Before long, the bitter Deputy foolishly decides to make the town pay for his injury, and the Sheriff must choose sides.

Sam Whiskey

Santa Fe Passage
    Starring: John Payne, Faith Domergue, Rod Cameron

A disgraced scout guides a wagon train through hostile Kiowa country to Santa Fe and overcomes his prejudice towards Indians and accepts the love of a half-breed woman. Kirby Randolph is blamed for abandoning a wagon train that was later massacred but redeems himself as he saves another train from a stampede of wild ponies and Kiowa chief Satank's warriors, battling them at every bend in the trail. Randolph even gets a measure of personal revenge against the chief by partially scalping and disfiguring him in front of his tribesmen. There is the usual love triangle between Randolph, Jess Griswold and pretty brunette Aurelie St. Clair, but Randolph wins the maiden's hand at the finish. Utah's landscape nearly steals the film because of the beautiful vistas and high skies that mirror an artist's canvas. The pony stampede through a canyon is very effective and displays the beauty of the Wild West with the wagon train in harm's way.

Savage Pampas

In the late 1800's, an army captain tries to tame the open plains of Argentina which are dominated by Indians and bandits. To help do this, the captain brings in a party of women to keep his soldiers happy.

Shadow Valley
    Starring: Eddie Dean, Jennifer Holt & Roscoe Ates

Eddie and sidekick Soapy get involved in Gunnison's attempt to acquire the Jarvis ranch. Gunnison knows there is gold there and having already killed Mary Ann's father and uncle, he now tries to persuade her to leave, but Eddie gets her to stay and then starts his search for the killer.

The Sheepman
    Starring: Glenn Ford, Shirley MacLaine, Leslie Nielsen,

Regarded as one of the best Western-Comedies ever made. A stranger in a Western cattle-town behaves with remarkable self-assurance, establishing himself as a man to be reckoned with. The reason appears with his stock: a herd of sheep, which he intends to graze on the range. The horrified inhabitants decide to run him out at all costs.

Sheriff of Fractured Jaw
    Starring: Jayne Mansfield & Robert Moore

Lightweight fluff that derives most of its humour from the incongruity of Moore's mild-mannered English tenderfoot among the gunslingers, Indians and chorus girls of the Wild West. Though the wedding line-up of Moore, Mansfield and the Indian Chief, complete with war-bonnet, as Mansfield's "father" is one of the more bizarre sights in the western genre.

Shut My Big Mouth
    Starring: Joe E. Brown & Adele Mara

Wellington Holmes, a timid horticulturist, heads for Big Bluff. When the stage is held up by Buckskin Bill and his men, he accidently knocks out three of them earning himself the unwanted job of Marshal. Escaping town disguised as a woman, the stage is again held up by Buckskin and he, Elena Montoya and her father are made prisoners. He escapes and when Buckskin arrives in town he again accidently overpowers him. Having been previously masked, Buckskin now claims to be Buckskin's enemy and the townspeople believe him. They release him and offer him the reward for leading Wellington to Buckskin's hideout. So Wellington and Elena with the ranson money for her father, but no posse, head out to bring in Buckskin.

The Siege at Red River

Cavalry Captain Farraday attempts to prevent the delivery of Gatling Guns into the hands of hostile Indians.

Sioux City Sue

Talent scout Sue Warner takes Gene to Hollywood to play the voice of a singing donkey in a musical. Disgusted, he goes back home to find outlaws plan to blow up his dam  and drown his animals.

Song of Nevada
    Starring: Roy Rogers & Dale Evans

Western girl moves east and influenced badly by her snobby fiancé. She returns to sell her deceased father's ranch. The father isn't really dead, though; he's hoping that his friend Roy can restore the girl's western values. Songs include "New Moon Over Nevada," "A Cowboy has to Yodel in the Morning," and "The Harum Scarum Baron of the Harmonium."

Sons of the Pioneers
    Starring: Roy Rogers, Gabby Hayes
                        & The Sons of the Pioneers

Night raiders are burning down the ranchers' barns and poisoning their cattle. Sheriff Gabby, unable to cope, goes east to get help from Roy, descendent of two famous sheriffs. Roy is a young entomologist who would rather study bugs than strap on guns. He finally gives in to Gabby's wishes and ends the terror. Songs include "He's Gone Up The Trail," "Come And Get It," "Things Are Never What They Seem," Trail Herdin' Cowboy," and "The West Is In My Soul."

Texas Across This River

The Louisiana wedding of debutante Phoebe Ann Naylor to Don Andrea de Baldasar, El Duce de la Casala is stopped by the Cavalry over a matter of honor. Don Andrea flees across the river to Texas, where he meets up with Sam Hollis and his Indian sidekick, Kronk, who are carrying rifles to the town of Moccasin Flats. Don Andrea rescues an Indian maiden, Lonetta, tames some longhorns, competes with Sam for Phoebe's affections, eludes a Comanche war party and the cavalry (who have come to Moccasin Flats to celebrate Texas' statehood) and ultimately saves the town and gets his girl.

Texas Lady
    Starring: Claudette Colbert & Barry Sullivan

Prudence travels to an isolated Texas town where she has inherited the local paper. She finds the place ruled over by the two men who wrested the area from the Indians twenty-five years before, and it is clear they do not welcome her free-spirited intervention. Support comes in the unexpected shape of the gambler she has just bested in New Orleans for her own family reasons.

The Texican

A framed lawman living in Mexico returns to the U.S. to avenge his brother’s death and clear his own name.

These Thousand Hills
    Starring: Lee Remick, Richard Egan & Don Murray

Don Murray plays Latt Evans, an ambitious cowboy who puts himself in the fast lane for success in Montana's cattle country. There is a very good supporting cast in this story with Stuart Whitman as his friend, Albert Dekker as a banker and Patricia Owens as the banker's niece. Lee Remick plays her usual strong role as Callie, another friend of Evans. Richard Egan plays an uncharacteristically villainous role and does it pretty well.

They Rode West

Villa Rides

Lee Arnold , an American pilot and gun-running mercenary, comes into the picture when he asks Luis Gonzalez, a blacksmith in a little Mexican village, to repair his plane . During Arnold's stay at the home of Gonzalez, the village is attacked by soldiers, known as "Colorados", who, hang by the neck, those fighting back. In the chaos, Arnold is captured, but Pancho Villa and his revolutionaries arrive on the scene to avenge the town by slaughtering the Colorados, and take Arnold prisoner. Upon being mistaken as a mercenary for the Colorados, Arnold persuades Villa not to put him to death when he pledges to fly his plane for Villa. Together, Villa and Arnold work and fly for "the Cause”.

The Violent Men

All is anyway not well at Anchor with the owner's wife carrying on with his brother who anyway has a Mexican moll in town.

The Virginian

In the town of Hard Times, a stranger rides in and terrorizes the small settlement. He kills a number of townsfolk, including Fee, the town's founder. Mayor Will Blue fails to stand up to the man, who rapes saloon whore Molly and burns down the town. Blue promises to rebuild the town after the stranger rides on, but the townsfolk give up and leave. A wagon load of prostitutes led by "entrepeneur" Zar shows up and together with Blue, they rebuild the town. But Molly's desire for revenge and her anger at Blue for not protecting her eat at her, and Blue promises that things will be different when the stranger returns. And return he does.

Westward Trail

Ann and Tom Howard arrive from the east to take up ranching. But Tom wants to return and forges his sister's name to the deed and sells it to Larson. Eddie knows there is silver ore in the area and that Lawson, who killed the Sheriff, is out to get all the ranches. When Lawson appoints himself the new Sheriff, Eddie organizes the ranchers to fight Lawson and his men.

When his longtime friend Murray is justifiably fired for stealing merchandise from train wrecks, Smith doesn't hesistate to go after his friend when Murray becomes involved with the gang responsbile for the train wrecks. Top-notch performances by Ladd and Robert Preston, who played Murray, plus an excellent script and stellar direction from Leslie Fenton, make this film a classic

The Wild & the Innocent

Charming tale of mountaineer-trapper Murphy's first taste "big city" life with young, sweet Sandra Dee in tow. They get into all manner of trouble in town, and Murphy has to shoot the sheriff to rescue Dee from her job as a dancehall girl.

The Windmill

A down & out rancher has a plan to bring water to the farmers of a dry region of land in the old west. But he has to raise $500.00 to purchase a windmill & equipment to build the irrigation system. However, if he doesn’t win, he risks loosing his land & his family both. This is a long lost TV movie from the GE Theater series from the late 50’s….A true must for any Stewart fan!!!

The Wonderful Country

Having fled to Mexico from the U.S. many years ago for killing his father's murderer, Martin Brady travels to Texas to broker an arms deal for his Mexican boss, strongman Governor Cipriano Castro. Brady breaks a leg and while recuperating in Texas the gun shipment is stolen. Complicating matters further the wife of local army major Colton has designs on him, and the local Texas Ranger captain makes him a generous offer to come back to the states and join his outfit. After killing a man in self defense, Brady slips back over the border and confronts Castro who is not only unhappy that Brady has lost his gun shipment but is about to join forces with Colton to battle the local raiding Apache Indians.

Yellow Sky

A band of bank robbers on the run from a posse flee into the desert. Near death from lack of water they stumble into what appears to be a ghost town, only to discover an old prospector and his granddaughter living there. The robbers discover that the old man has been mining gold and set out to make a quick fortune by robbing the pair. Their plan runs foul when the gang leader, Stretch (Gregory Peck), falls for the granddaughter (Anne Baxter), which sets off a showdown between the entire gang.
